Who is Chip Lake?

Chip Lake is a former Chief of Staff to a member of Congress but left Washington in 2011 to go into business for himself as a Political Strategist. He's now the principal in the consulting firm, Glendale Strategies, Inc. and Twin Oaks Connect, Inc.

“In politics, as much as things change, they very much remain the same.” – Chip Lake

Why Chip Fled DC

While most people thought Chip's job being a Chief of Staff was glamorous, he just felt like a babysitter. He eventually realized the majority of his time was coming up with solutions that were really more like band-aids and this constant battle started to take it's toll.

“Washington is broken. It’s broken in so many ways that people don’t even know …” – Chip Lake

Is New Media Changing the Election Game?

Chip and I discuss how new media, and especially social media, influences voters and ultimately the way campaigns and elections are now being run. This has never been more evident than in the recent Presidential election.

“If I had to do it all over again, and I wanted to get into campaigns and elections, I would’ve been a marketing major.” – Chip Lake

Most Candidates Aren't Good Policy Makers

One of the most interesting parts of my conversation with Chip was discussing the correlation between sales and politics. Most candidates are good “pitch people” and that doesn't necessarily mean they're good at doing the work that comes after closing the sale, or in a politician's case, getting elected.

“The people that win elections, for the most part, are good candidates. That does not make them good policy makers.” – Chip Lake
